Dylan’s 2022 Honda Civic
Welcome the hell back RiceFam!
I know… it’s been a long ass time hasn’t it? I am sorry that I’ve been away for a while, but it was due to big familial changes – all non-negative – so nothing worrisome at all.
I’m sure most of you are here for car stuff so I’ll spare what was going on behind the scenes in my absence for now and call attention to this blue beauty.
The owner of this is a long time friend of mine from years ago. I met Dylan through cars (of course) and he has this red 7th gen Accord with Yakima Roof Racks. I knew him as the guy who owned various cars like a 1st gen Fit, a Del Sol, an NA Miata, an NB Miata, and more in relatively short spans of time and he modified them quickly. Met a couple other car peeps through him and got him to go autoxing too.
At one point he stopped doing stuff in the “import scene,” moved over to Washington, and drove “normal” things.
Then suddenly – almost outta no where I felt like – he started posting this Civic, along with gradual mods in intervals, and this brought me back and reminded me of the Dylan I remembered.
I said, “You never really leave the scene, no matter how long you’ve been out.” I think he and I have that in common.
While on my small trip to Hondafest NW, I met up with him at the show and asked for a quick shoot afterwards. We were tight on time and while I prefer not to shoot in between levels of parking structures because I don’t really know how to use the lighting in the situation, I made do with what I had. The top level was completely blocked off.
I’ve gotten/heard comments about some cars I’ve posted along the lines of “not being much.” Number 1: I don’t give a shit if any builds are “not much.” Car culture is built one build at a time, regardless of its stage or progress. Number 2: regardless, this car has some pretty neat things about it.
First thing, I want to call focus to the brakes. If they look a little strange, they should. These brakes don’t come factory on the car. In fact, they don’t even come factory on a Honda.
The rotor/caliper combo comes from a Nissan Rogue and a Hyundai Genesis respectively. They are factory Brembos that bolt into the car with no modifications other than trimming of a dust shield. Secondly, they can be bought from your local auto parts store right now if they have it in stock and they are a fraction of the price compared to other upgrades out there but still with the stopping power of a 4 piston Brembo.
Fucking cool or what!?
I hear that this works for the 8th gen Civic. I’m going to do this. Not a matter of if, just when. Believe it. I wonder if it works with an S2000…
The other thing I want to call attention to is the turbo on this car. These cars do come with a factory turbo, but there is a pretty cool story behind this one.
This 27Won turbo is a 1.5t prototype that they were looking for volunteers to test on in exchange for time and data. If you can find the install instructions online, its this car that’s in there. It bumped the power from 177 to about 300. Way more torquey.
Want to know something else that I think just fits and couldn’t help but laugh at? As of this writing, this blue car is no longer owned by Dylan. He got rid of it and got something else. I won’t say on here what it is, but if you follow him you already know what it is and honestly, I approve of the upgrade.
It gives me another reason to go back to Seattle haha.
I leave the rest of the photos to have you oogle at.
See where all those buttons that would be on the stock steering wheel? It’s on a mechanism thats 3D printed. I hear that cost more than the steering wheel. Lawl.
I really had a great time in Seattle and was pretty cool to catch up some with some good’ol car people.
Any questions? Keep them to yourself 🙂 Just kidding.
Till next time RiceFans!
