Ben’s 2018 Honda Civic Type-R
The first time I came across Ben was on Youtube. He was in a vid (that unfortunately I cannot find anymore) that featured his 8th gen Civic Si that was slammed on aggressive Advan RGII. I continuously watched that vid just so I could look at it. This was way before I had gotten a civic of my own, looking for inspiration and researching what spec wheels I could fit. That was a long time ago…
Fast forward to circa November 2018.
I had just finished lunch for a friend’s birthday at International Market Place in Waikiki got into an elevator with a couple in it with one familiar looking face.
Yup. It was Ben in the flesh – the guy in Cali with the badass 8th civic was here in Hawaii in the same elevator as me. It was probably awkward introducing myself, but I was kinda fanboying hahah. Sorry, not sorry.
He has since graduated from the 8th Si to the 10th gen Type-R you see here – number 20217. You know how people look can look much better in person than they do in pictures? This is one of those beauties.
If you’ve ever seen Ben’s old 8th gen, my car is eerily similar looking to his – I was heavily inspired. I didn’t know the mods on his Type-R initially and if I had one of my own I’d probably do something similar. Great minds think alike I guess?
I’ll keep his engine mods “under the hood” and instead focus on the outside. I tend to be superficial when it comes to cars.
A huge factor in how good a car looks is in it’s “stance” or how it “sits.” Ben does a great job of it here. The synergetic wheel/tire/lowering combination is key when making a car look nice.
The CTR is lowered with Swift springs on a set of 18″ Volk Bronze TE37 in the OG design. Federal 265/35 tires are wrapped on the 10″ of width.
Ben’s to-do list for the R still has “some ways to go,” but he’s off to a great start and in no need to rush anything. If you ever see his CTR in the wild or happen to bump into him (like in an elevator somewhere) say hello! A fellow 8thgen owner and he was cool enough to sacrifice his time to let me take pictures of his car.
He’s getting relocated back to his home in Cali in a few months so I won’t be able to see the progress of this R in person. Best of luck to you Ben regardless!
Till next time! Keep DRIVING!
